How To Install Firefox 8 On Ubuntu (11.10/11.04/10.10/10.04)

Firefox 8 is now available in its final and stable version bringing more new features including MapsGL support and many bugfixes (1161). In this guide we will help you install or upgrade your current Firefox version to Firefox 8 under Ubuntu 11.10/11.04/10.10/10.04.

Here are some of the new features for this final release:

The update of Firefox 8 for Ubuntu 11.10/11.04 hasn't been released so far, but you can upgrade with these commands for now:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-next
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

For Ubuntu 10.10/10.04, use these commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
