FIREFOX 7 FOR UBUNTU 10.10 AND 10.04

Firefox 7 should be available in the official Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal and 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot repositories very soon.



Firefox 7 is brings improved memory usage and sync, CSS3 text overflow, Azure for improved HTML5 animation, web timing spec - a feature that enables developers to measure page load time and more.

To install the latest Firefox 7 in Ubuntu 10.10 or 10.04, use the commands below:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firefox

JUPITER APPLET FOR UBUNTU 11.10 ONEIRIC OCELOT


Jupiter Ubuntu 11.10

Jupiter is an applet designed for netbooks and laptops that you can use to switch between maximum and high performance and power saving mode, change the resolution and orientation, enable or disable the bluetooth, touchpad, WiFi and so on. If you own an Asus EeePC netbook, there's also a separate package that adds support for Asus Super Hybrid Engine (SHE) as well as some other EeePC tweaks.

Jupiter doesn't work by default in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot due to some Mono changes, but you can now use it thanks to a "hack" provided by WebUpd8 reader mtron. If you want to help getting Jupiter to work in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot without this "hack", get the Jupiter source code from HERE.


But, like I've said, you don't have to wait for this fix to get Jupiter working in Oneiric because I've applied mtron's tweak to the Jupiter packages available in the Jupiter WebUpd8 PPA. 

Add the Jupiter WebUpd8 PPA and install it using the commands below:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/jupiter
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install jupiter


If you own Asus EeePC netbook, also install jupiter-support-eee - required for SHE (Super Hybrid Engine):

sudo apt-get install jupiter-support-eee

I've tweaked Jupiter to whitelist itself (this has been available since Ubuntu Natty) for the Unity systray so if you run Unity, after starting Jupiter for the first time you'll have to log out and log back in to see its icon in the notification area (systray). That's of course not the case if you've whitelisted the whole systray.


Bonus: if you want to use monochrome icons for Jupiter (light/dark), get them fromHERE. For Ubuntu 11.10, you'll have to resize the icons to 24x24px (use the "nautilus-image-converter" package for easily resizing all the icons with 2 clicks; yes, it work with Nautilus 3 too).


If you're not using Ubuntu, you can doad Jupiter via SourceForge (.rpm files available). To get it working with the latest Mono, use "/usr/bin/mono --runtime=v4.0.30319 /usr/bin/jupiter.exe" to run it (the Mono runtime version may be different for your Linux distribution).

PULSEAUDIO EQUALIZER UPDATED FOR UBUNTU 11.04 NATTY NARWHAL


PulseAudio Equalizer

Remember the system-wide PulseAudio Equalizer?


Today I was updating most of the packages in the WebUpd8 PPA that I didn't update yet (not many actually) for Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal and I've remembered about some patches for PulseAudio Equalizer so I though I'd add them with this update.

These patches should fix the "Max Volume" bug and a bug with settings persistence.


PulseAudio Equalizer has been updated for both Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal and 10.10 Maverick Meerkat. Add the WebUpd8 PPA and install the system-wide PulseAudio Equalizer using the commands below:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-equalizer


Oh, and if you find a bug, unfortunately there's nowhere to report it because PulseAudio Equalizer is no longer maintained.

Veetle on Ubuntu 11, Firefox

The easiest way to install Veetle for Ubuntu is to: 

1. Download Veetle by clicking this link 
http://veetle.com/download.php/veetle-0.9.17.tgz

2.  Open with, Archive Manager (default), and press ok 



3.  Click on Veetle folder, and click Extract.
4. Click Extract again
5. Click on Show the Files.
6. Double click on Veetle folder
     
7.  Double click INSTALL file
     
8. Click Run In Terminal
     

9. Restart Firefox. You have now installed Veetle for Firefox.

Singaporean Porn-star Felicia Lee found murdered

Former actress and model Felicia Lee who went by the stage name of Felicia Tang, was found dead in her Monrovia, California apartment last week. The 31-year-old was reportedly tortured and murdered by her 45-year-old boyfriend Brian Lee Randone.
Lee was found dead on Friday inside her apartment, a victim of beating and suffocation. Randone, a former preacher who dabbled in show business, was charged with torture and murder on Wednesday and is being held on a $2 million bond.
He worked as a mime at Baylor University in Texas in the mid 1990s. He also appeared on the 2000 FOX reality show The Sexiest Bachelor in America as Mr. Nebraska.
Lee was born in Singapore and relocated during her childhood to Southern California with her family. According to her website, which has since been taken down, Lee appeared in the mainstream films Rush Hour 2 and The Fast and the Furious, as well as in several adult movies: Daily Motion, Asian Fever, Doctor Patient Privilege and Hotel Decadence. She also appears on Playboy television.

Install Grub4Dos ke Harddisk


Grub4Dos adalah utility untuk membuat multiboot pada harddisk maupun media lain, mendukung sistem operasi baik itu DOS, Windows, Linux dan sistem operasi lainnya. Dapat dipakai untuk memilih jenis operating sistem apa yang akan dipakai jika kita menginstall lebih dari 1 operating sistem di komputer kita. Grub4Dos juga paling banyak dipakai untuk membuat bootloader di USB flashdisk. Juga mempunyai banyak kelebihan seperti emulasi file ISO, memory mapping dll. Dalam artikel kali ini, akan ditunjukkan cara menginstall Grub4Dos ke harddisk dengan memakai program yang dinamakan Bootice. Bootice adalah sebuah utility untuk membackup/restore MBR (Master boot record) ataupun PBR (Partisi boot record), Bootice juga banyak mendukung bootloader lainnya seperti Grub4Dos.
Langkah2 menginstall Grub4Dos ke MBR (Master Boot Record) di Windows 7
  1. Download dahulu program Grub4Dos dan Bootice.
  2. Ekstraklah programnnya memakai program winrar atau winzip ataupun 7-zip.
  3. Copy file grldr dan menu.lst yang telah kita ekstrak dari program Grub4Dos tadi ke Drive C:
  4. Buka dan edit file menu.lst dengan memakai program teks editor favorite masing2 (saya sukanya pake program Notepad++), Copy dan paste kode berikut:

Langkah2 Kalau mau mengembalikan MBR (Restore) ke aslinya:
  1. Jalankan Program Bootice dengan hak Administrator
  2. Pilih harddisk dan klik pada tombol Process MBR
  3. Pilih Windows NT 6.x MBR dan klik pada tombol Install/Config

Cara Install Windows 7 ke HDD Portable


Secara default, windows emang tidak mengizinkan kita untuk menginstall windows ke USB harddisk eksternal, dan akan nongol pesan error seperti berikut:
Windows Cannot be installed to this disk. Setup does not support configuration of or installation to disk connected through a USB or IEEE 1394 port.
Meskipun windows mengenali dan menampilkan drive USB pada tampilan proses instalasi akan tetapi tidak memungkinkan kita untuk memilih drive usb tadi. Jika kita ingin menginstall windows pada eksternal harddisk, silahkan simak langkah langkah dibawah ini.

Prosedur ini sederhana, tetapi pertama kita perlu menginstal Windows Automated Installation Kit untuk mendapatkan beberapa file.
Alat yang diperlukan:


1. Sebuah Harddisk eksternal yang diformat dengan partisi NTFS
2. Instalasi file Windows 7. (Jika punya file .ISO windows 7, mount lah dengan memakai program virtual cd)
3. Windows Automated Installation Kit (Download gratis dari microsoft)


Catatan: Pastikan isi ruang eksternal harddisk masih tersisa sekitar 15GB ( atau lebih ) sebelum memulai prosedur ini, meskipun tidak disarankan untuk menghapus seluruh isi harddisk eksternal anda, pastikan bahwa file file penting didalamnya telah dibackup terlebih dahulu.
Prosedurnya:
  1. Buat lah dua folder dengan nama Windows Files dan WAIK Files di desktop atau tempat lain yang mempunyai ruang kosong minimal 5GB.
  2. Download file ZIP, kemudian ekstraklah semua isinya kedalam folder WAIK Files, sebelum memulai prosedur sebenarnya, kita memerlukan tiga buah file: cdboot.exe, Bootsect.exe dan Imagex.exe. ketiga file tadi hanya dapat ditemukan setelah kita menginstall indows Automated Installation Kit untuk Windows 7 pada PC windows kita. Setelah kita menginstall indows Automated Installation Kit, temukan ketiga filenya copy dan masukkan kedalam folder WAIK Files yang telah kita buat tadi spt pd langkah no-1.
    3. Jika belum punya CD instalasi WAIK tadi (atau males downloadnya karena lumayan gede filenya – 1,7GB!!) Silahkan download ajah linknya diakhir artikel ini:
  3. Copy lah semua isi DVD windows 7 kita kedalam folder Windows Files.
  4. Langkah selanjutnya, jalankan file Installer.cmd, yang berada didalam folder WAIK Files, jalankan sebagai hak akses Administrator ( Klik kanan filenya dan pilih “Run as Administrator”). Pada tampilan pertama layar, kita akan ditanya untuk menekan tombol “Enter” untuk melanjutkan.
    5. Tekan tombol Enter untuk mencari file instalasi install.wim yang berada didalam folder Windows Files, file dapat ditemukan pada folder:
    Windows Files/Sources/install.wim

  5. Sekarang kita harus memilih edisi windows 7 yang kita inginkan, misalkan kita mau menginstall windows 7 ultimate pada external usb harddisk dengan cara mengetikkan sesuai angka dibelakangnya. Contoh: ketikkan angka “5″ (tanpa tanda kutip) untuk memilih edisi ultimate.
  6. Selanjutnya ketikkan hurup drive eksternal harddisk kita dan tekan Enter. Misalkan Harddisk eksternal kita berhurup L ( Ketik L lalu tekan Enter)
  7. Sekarang ketikkan Partisi yang sedang aktif saat ini dan tekan Enter, biasanya C:. Untuk mengetahuinya dapat menggunakan tool Windows Disk Management (ketikkan diskmgmt.msc di kotak pencarian pada start menu windows 7)

  8. Akhirnya, proses instalasi akan menanyakan apakah kita akan menginstall windows 7 pada harddisk eksternal usb kita, tekan tombol Y untuk melanjutkan.
    9. Akhirnya tekan tombol Enter untuk memulai mengekstrak file install.wim. Proses ini bisa memakan waktu yang agak lama. Kemudian kita akan ditanya untuk me-restart komputer kita dan proses penginstallan windows akan berjalan normal seperti biasa.

  9. Reboot PC kita, dan ikuti langkah2 penginstallan windows 7 biasanya pada eksternal harddisk. Komputer kita akan restart dua hingga tiga kali.
    10. Dengan catatan, proses penginstallan ini akan lebih lambat dari biasanya dikarenakan kita menginstall nya pada USB harddisk.
  10. Sesudah itu, barulah kita dapat menginstall driver untuk masing2 hardware yang ada di komputer kita untuk memulai menggunakan software windows 7 yang kita cintai.
